Advice and answers from the Astro Team

When an email chain gets out of control, you can mute the conversation to stop the stream of notifications and have new messages skip your inbox. You won’t be notified of new messages in muted conversations, but you can still open the thread at anytime to read what you've missed--they'll be in your archive folder. And fear not, the people on the other end will never know you've muted them.

macOS:

  • Select an email in your Inbox
  • Type the keyboard shortcut "M", or right click and select mute
  • This will move the thread to your Archive folder, where you'll see a red box that says "Muted"
  • To un-mute a conversation, click the X in the red box, or type the keyboard shortcut "M" again

iOS:

  • Open the email thread you'd like to mute
  • Tap the flag icon at the bottom screen
  • Select "Mute"
  • This will move the thread to your Archive folder, where you'll see a red box that says "Muted"
  • To un-mute a conversation, tap the flag icon at the bottom of the screen and select "Unmute"
